Professional-services firm — cash-to-accrual
A contract company on cash-basis QuickBooks. Four recognition methods, a contract master, journal uploads, prepaid companion, and a month-end SOP. The overlay, not an ERP conversion.
Scientific research institute — budget vs actual
Monthly reporting required cutting each period out of the accounting system by hand. An Access system produced the Excel comparison — labor by person, other costs by GL, subcontracts by vendor — in seconds instead of a cut-and-paste morning.
Technology lessor — lease accounting entries
Each lease needed a discounted cash-flow calculation and a journal entry shaped by lease type. The workbook did both and handed the books a posting they could take.
Packaging company — financing package
Expansion required capital. Five-year integrated projections — income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow — plus the written financing request that went with them.
Pharmaceutical company — distribution compliance
Sales had to be watched against distribution-agreement requirements. An Excel model pulled the sales data and showed each distributor/product combination with a smoothed trend collar.
Telecommunications company — inventory outside the GL
A merger required tracking inventory at sale that did not live in the accounting system. An Access database read SAP, tracked more than 100,000 parts, and produced both subcontractor payment and Oracle journal entries.
